Zynga has today announced the upcoming closure of its licensed strategy game, Star Wars Commander. The news arrived as a shock to the game's community, appearing in-game and listing June 12th as the closedown date. All in-app purchases have now been suspended.

"We didn't come to this decision lightly, we love this game as much as you. It's been an honor to have been a part of this community and thank you for playing!", says Zynga's in-game message.

A concerned player had previously pointed out to me that the game's weekly conflicts and events had stalled and that communication between players and Zynga had died down in recent times.

Nevertheless, it appears that the game's long-time fans didn't expect this worst-case scenario to come true. It's always sad to see a community, regardless of its size, lose a game they're so clearly passionate about.

Shocked by the suddenness of today's announcement, fans have already started spreading #SaveSWCommander on Zynga's official Facebook page.

Late last year, Sensor Tower reported that Star Wars mobile games had shot past $1 billion in lifetime revenue. EA's Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes topped the list with $924 million in revenue. Star Wars Commander was actually the second-highest-grossing title, bringing in $93 million. Still, it's plain to see that its number paled in comparison to those achieved by Galaxy of Heroes.
&#;

A Brief History of the World is a board game that spans, well, a brief history of the world. And right now you can pick it up for just 99p / 99c. That's all of human history for less than the price of a coffee.

There's a huge amount to do here. You've got single player against various levels of AI, pass-and-play multiplayer, and online play with up to six players.

You can choose to play as Napoleon, Julius Caeser, or Genghis Khan, and then take on the rest of the world to try and conquer it all before time runs out. There are 40 events cars, 42 major empires, and 15 minor empires to deal with.

If you've ever fancied ruling the world, but you like to be frugal too, this one's for you. And you can click right here to swoosh over to the App Store and grab the game this second.

BISBOG brought something a little different to the table at Gamescom as they let us preview Cabals: Card Blitz, a collectible card game – or rather, a tactical deck builder.

Set in an alternate-history WWI/WWII Two environment, the game's visuals are very clean and detailed. On the outside it looks like a simple card game, but Cabals: Card Blitz focusses more on the deck building element, similar to Gwent in The Witcher 3.

The actual card game plays automatically, working off of your collected deck and random chance as to what cards face up against your opponent's.

This feature is actually what interested me the most about the game. As opposed to using strategy, both players have exactly the same chance of high and low cards being drawn. That means that even if your opponent has a stronger deck than yours, you still have a chance at beating them. The asynchronous gameplay also means that you don't have to play with someone simultaneously and can find a match much faster.

Though it's in soft launch in the Philippines at the moment, the actual worldwide release will happen in a couple of months when the game's been polished up a little. Coming to iOS and Steam, Cabals: Card Blitz will be free-to-play.
Figuring that they their passions likewise lent me

Following the Nintendo Spotlight, and a heck of a lot of announcements, we're going to get a better look at Super Mario Odyssey at Treehouse Live and it looks pretty great.

From the interview with Yoshiaki Koizumi and Kenta Motokura, the theme of 'going on a journey' is a core part to Super Mario Odyssey, but there's still that element of surprise hiding between the layers (hence the T-Rex). However, the surprise was also balanced with an emotional familiarity that's cute from the Mario series.

Motokura explains that the overall story of the game is that you take over different enemies/object by throwing your hat and taking over whatever being it lands on. The city itself is inspired by certain Donkey Kong elements, but more information will be revealed in time.

From the gameplay, things are looking pretty tidy. You don't take fall damage even if you jump from the tallest building (so long as you've got something to fall onto), you can wall-jump, swing from bars, climb various surfaces, and more. You've got three hearts, but dying in-game doesn't amount in much punishment as you'll only lose ten coins.

Mario can also throw Cappy - his hat - by using the Joy-Con's motion controls which is a really neat effect. In terms of coins, there are two types. The purple triangle sorts can be found in the Desert Kingdom and can only be used here. The yellow coins can only be used in New Donk City.

One of the coolest features is the pipe transitions which then change Mario from a 3D figure into a 2D figure who can still work his way around a 3D environment. It's a very nice touch.

There's a lot that can be said about Super Mario Odyssey, but I'll include a link to the video once it's available so you guys can see if for yourself. It'll be coming out on October 27th 2017.

 &#;
Wow, it feels like absolutely forever since we last chatted about Scott Cawthon and Five Nights at Freddy's, but I guess we can't go too long without some FNaF love. There's no new game in the works though, no, but there might be some interesting projects on the horizon for fans of the series.
